The public is advised anew to take extra care and reasonable measures to prevent the occurrence of fire amid the extreme weather condition sweeping the city the past months.

Mayor Beng Climaco reiterated the call as several cases of fire incidents – two of which due to bush fires occurred in various barangays only during the Holy Week.    These included the incidents in Zambowood and Lower Calarian where several houses or establishments were razed to the ground and grass fires in Muruk, Upper Pasonanca and Salih Drive, Tugbungan.

The mayor said people should be extra careful in handling fire and to take necessary steps to prevent accidental fires that may result to the loss of lives and properties. The prolonged dry spell has caused so much damage particularly to the agricultural sector and calamities like fire could be prevented if only each and every individual will take extra care and reasonable measures.

Avoid open pit burning or grass fires as these could spread rapidly endangering lives and properties, she stressed.

On the other hand, the chief executive appealed for public support and cooperation to calls for water and energy conservation also in the light of scarcity in water and shortage of power supply in the city.  — Sheila Covarrubias
