Two former Zamboanga City chief executives who are considered political stalwarts showed their renewed confidence and strong support to Congressman Celso Lobregat in his re-election bid for the congressional seat in District 1.

Mayors Efren Arañez and Jose Vicente “Vinnie” Atilano II raised the hands of Lobregat during a recent meeting during a simple gathering of the immediate family members of the two former city officials.

As a former three-term mayor of the city, his former counterparts have no doubts in the exemplary performance and public service Lobregat has rendered to the Zamboangeños. Mayor Atilano was the 19th city mayor who served from 1978 to 1980, while Arañez was the 25th mayor of the city who served in 1998.

Arañez said that Lobregat has delivered more than what was expected of him by the people, not only as a mayor, but also as a congressman, that’s why he deserves to be re-elected.

Atilano said the three-terms were not even enough for Lobregat to pursuehis endless quest for progress and development as well, all for the welfare of the constituents.

The two officials firmly believed that Lobregat is “The One” when it comes to legislation and in defense of Zamboanga City, that’s why he deserves to be re-elected as his track record has proven his worth on issues like the Framework on the Bangsamoro (FAB), Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) and the recent Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL).

Lobregat said he has high respect for his two former mentors frm whom he seeks advices in terms of leadership, public service and in the performance of his job as a local official.

“I have high respects for former mayors Nonie Arañez and Vinnie Atilano and I would like to thank them for the continued support and in believing in my capacities to lead and defend our beloved city,” Lobregat said. — Dexter Yap
