Two persons were killed and eight others wounded when an alleged mentally sick man went berserk, attacking his relatives inside the house at Sitio Sinoropan, Barangay Licomo Wednesday night.

Chief Insp. Salvador Galvez, Vitali Police Station chief, disclosed that the bloody incident took place past 7 p.m. at the house of Mr. and Mrs. Silvina Boncales.

Galvez said the attacker identified as John-John Canaway y Gambuta, a native of Dawa-Dawa, Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay and staying for almost two weeks with the Boncales family who happened to be his relatives, was also killed.

The family members and other relatives were watching television when Canaway arrived from a nearby cemetery where he visited his departed relatives. He suddenly grabbed a bolo and without much ado, attacked his relatives including children.

Other house occupants fought and managed to hack Canaway, who died in the hospital.

Galvez identified the other fatality as Ramil Hudag, Sr., 45, married. He sustained multiple hack wounds in the body.

Wounded were Silvina Boncales y Gamuta, 64, Gesilma Boncales, 7 months old, Mary Boncales y Fundador, 21, Ramil Hudag Jr., 12, Francisco Estorco, 70, Antonio Boncales y Almini, 66, Angelou Gambuta y Hudag, 7, and Joselito Boncales y Gambuta, 31,.

Police recovered at the crime scene a bolo used by the suspect in attacking the victims.—Dan Toribio
