Government forces on Monday arrested the leader of a kidnap-for-ransom group behind the kidnapping of a Zamboangueño businessman in 2008.

Arrested was Esmael Pingli alias Tago Pingli, leader of a kidnap gang with links to the Abu Sayyaf He  was collared somewhere at the border of RT Lim and Tungawan towns in Zamboanga Sibugay around 1 p.m.

A military report said that Pingli was about to escape when he descended into a checkpoint manned by MIG10, MIG9, CIDG9, 102 Brigade, NICA9, 6SFBN and 15DRC.

Pingli has a pending warrant of arrest for kidnapping and serious illegal detention as he was involved in a series of kidnappings in Zamboanga Peninsula including the kidnapping of  businessman Tito Bautista in 2008.

Pingli is also connected with the group of Wanning Abdusalam based in Zamboanga Sibugay.

Pingli was taken to the CIDG in Camp Batalla for tactical interrogation and proper turn over to the court. – Dan Toribio
