Former House Deputy Speaker for Mindanao Gerry Salapuddin of Basilan is back to politics and  now gunning for Basilan’s lone congressional seat.

Salapuddin disclosed that if elected again as congressman of Basilan, he will author a bill to change the status of Basilan State College into a university so that people  in the province will not experience hardship in going to other places in pursuit of education.

Salapuddin believes that with the new technology on computer, Basilan State College is a good place for education to become a university.

Another plan of Salapuddin is to author a bill to level up the province’s rubber industry by creating a Rubber Industry Board to make it again to the world market as the province has been known in the world market as the capital of rubber industry in the country.

“Karamihan ngayon dinadala ang rubber extract sa Zamboanga Sibugay at doon pina-process. Basilan is a rubber extract producer of the world. It’s a high time that the rubber industry will return in the province so that manufacturers and investors will come into the province,” Salapuddin said.

He urged rubber producer-farmers to make their products world competitive and maintain its quality.

Salapuddin is also campaigning for presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

“Im calling on all the people in the country and the Mindanaons to give their full support to the candidacy of Mayor Duterte to lead our country.I believe in his leadership. He has the platform of a government and solutions for development of our country. It takes a century or 100 years to find  a leader like Duterte to lead this country. Duterte is the answer and the solution,” Salapuddin said. — Allen Abastillas
