The Regional Maritime Unit’s 905th Maritime Police Station based at the Port Area of Isabela City, Basilan seized an illegal fishing gear, a fine net, while conducting  seaborne operations and anti- illegal fishing on Thursday at the area of Moro- Moro Island, Barangay Panigayan.

905th MPS Chief SPO4 Babilito M. Troyo who lead the operations reported to Supt. Salbino C. Piad Chief RMU9 that the the group of certain Abdulante on board a wooden boat includes a nine persons companion spotted by them fishing in Moro-Moro island.

When Troyo and his team checked the fishing net, it was discovered that it was a fine net which is prohibited to be used in fishing under the Fisheries Code of the Philippines.

Troyo said  a fine net can be used only for season of dilis (anchovied) and tabios, known as the smallest fish in the Philippines. It is not allowed if it is off season.
