More internally displaced families can expect to move to more stable shelters in the coming weeks as construction of additional permanent housing units under the Zamboanga City Roadmap to Recovery and Reconstruction (Z3R) program has been completed.

In his letter dated April 04, NHA District Manager Al-Khwarizmi Indanan informed Mayor Beng Climaco that 1,780 permanent housing will be turned over to beneficiary-families following the compliance of requirements imposed by the City Government through its Housing and Land Management Division.

Climaco has remained unyielding in her stance that housing units for internally displaced persons (IDPs) must first comply with sanitation standards as well as the availability and access to basic utilities, among other requirements, prior to its awarding to beneficiaries.

As of last Saturday, 1,365 internally displaced families have transferred to their permanent housing units, spread to the various barangays affected during the 2013 siege.

In addition, some 2,400 housing units are in various stages of construction while 917 others are awaiting the issuance of the necessary Notice to Proceed (NTP) from the NHA before they can be implemented.

The NHA assured that it will do its best to deliver the completed permanent housing units as soon as possible.— Claudine M. Uniana
