The Lamitan City Police Office has intensified its operations against wanted persons, drug pushers and illegal fishing.

Lamitan police chief Sr. Insp. Inspector Gean O. Gallardo disclosed that they recently captured the No. 2 wanted person in the city identified as  Sattalal Masallal.

Gallardo said most criminal cases filed against Masallal are murder.

Gallardo revealed that Masallal had been hired by several people in the city to kill or settle a “score” in connection with  family feud or rido. The term rido means clan war in the Moro culture, which can be triggered by land disputes, or political differences, or affronts to family honor.

Masallal was committed at the Basilan Provincial Jail.

On the campaign against illegal drug, Gallardo explained that most operations carried out in random with operatives often on mobile.

“We closely monitor their (drug pushers) movements. Most pushers are not from the city. They are outsiders,” Gallardo revealed.

He explained that fishermen engaging in illegal fishing in Lamitan City are mostly from the coastal barangays of Zamboanga City.

“Kasama po naming nag operate sa mga lawless ay ang mga Special Forces, PNP Special Action Force, Scout Ranger, Regional Public Safety Battalion of Police Regional Office- ARMM, Provincial Public Safety Battalion ng Basilan Police Provincial Office at mga barangay officials”, Gallardo said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Rose U. Furigay, together with the Vice Mayor Roderick H. Furigay and the City Council is currently preparing a resolution and  a report for the endorsement of Gallardo as top officer and  dedication to work.

Gallardo is a battle tested officer and a gentleman. Prior to his assignment as Chief of Lamitan City Police Office, he a police officer of Police Regional Office 9 under the leadership of retired Police Director Napoleon R. Estilles. While conducting an operation in Zamboanga Sibugay highway in 2013, Gallardo and his men was ambushed by lawless elements but with gallantry they fought back. Gallardo was wounded and the lawless men were neutralized. As a result of the ambush, a bullet is still embedded on his lungs. — Allen Abastillas
