Mayor Beng Climaco will lead the orientation for the first batch of college students employed under the Summer Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) on April 11 at the City Coliseum.

The first batch will be composed of 1,400 college students who will serve in various capacities in different local government and barangay offices from April 11 to May 6. The second SPES batch will be composed of 1,360 high school students, and will run from May 5 to May 28.

The orientation program, spearheaded jointly by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the City Human Resource Management Office (CHRMO), aims to prepare the SPES beneficiaries for their tasking and responsibilities.

The SPES program was created by virtue of Republic Act 7323, series of 1999 as amended by RA 9547 which seeks to encourage employment during summer, through incentives granted by the Local Government Units (LGUs) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on a 60-40% sharing.

Beneficiaries will receive P280 per day, totaling to P 5,600 for the 20-day period. For this year’s program, the local government allocated P9.27 million as its counterpart support to DOLE’s P 6.18 million.—  Jasmine Mohammadsali
