PNP Maritime stops 12 boats off Zambo City PDF Print E-mail

Twelve wooden hulled boats were apprehended by Regional Maritime Unit 9 personnel at dawn Saturday during a seaborne operation at he Zamboanga channel in connection with the Basilan worst clash that left 19 army soldiers dead and 53 wounded in Tipo- Tipo, Basilan.

Supt. Salbino C. Piad, chief, RMU-9,  said out of the 12 apprehended boats,  three came from Pagadian City with no registration documents from the Maritime Industry Authority 9 .

Piad explained that they were apprehended during a night seaborne operation on Saturday night to serve as blockade against possible movement of Abu Sayyaf militants.

“We are doing a seaborne operation and blockade in Basilan channel  in connections with the Tipo- Tipo incident wherein our comrades in arms, Philippine Army troopers were treacheroussly  ambushed by lawless groups while conducting a lawful  operation in a peaceful time in Basilan,” Piad said.

RMU 9th troopers extended their hearfelt condolence and sympathy to the bereaved families of the fallen soldiers.

“We are continuously on red alert. Our seaborne operations are part of  operations to prevent spillover in relation to Basilan operations,” Piad said. —Allen Abastillas
