Local and national offices located in Pettit Barracks including those in the main and annex buildings of City Hall will be the center of the earthquake drill set to start at 9am, Thursday, April 21 which will be simultaneous with other cities and provinces in the country.

The drill will start with the whaling of the City Hall siren at 9am, after which employees from the participating offices/agencies will start evacuating the buildings.

OIC City Administrator and concurrent City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head Dr. Elmeir Apolinario has urged all employees concerned to participate in the exercise seriously as if an actual earthquake is happening.

Strategic roads will be temporarily closed to accommodate the evacuating employees and clients whereas policemen and traffic aides will be on hand to redirect traffic, according to Apolinario.

An evaluation team coming from the Office of Civil Defense will be deployed to observe the conduct of the exercise.

The simultaneous earthquake drill is jointly organized by the OCD-9, CDRMMO, Phivolcs and the Office of City Mayor. —Sheila Covarrubias
