The City Government through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) has extended the needed assistance to include food and other relief goods to the 30 families displaced by the conflagration in San Roque shortly before noontime Tuesday.

CSWDO head Socorro Rojas said the families were given food packs, mats, pails, basins and other items as initial assistance from the local government intended to temporarily ease their plight.

The fire, believed to have originated from an unattended stove, razed a total of 27 houses at the urban poor area in Ruste Drive, Pantano in barangay San Roque. Based on records from the CSWDO, of the 30 families displaced, one is a sharer and 2 renters.

The grant of food and relief assistance as initial support to calamity victims form part of the continuing social welfare assistance of the local government.

The CSWDO is expected to recommend for financial assistance to the families affected following thorough assessment.

The displaced families are temporarily housed at the San Roque Elementary School. Authorities have appealed for assistance from the public and all donations can be coursed through the San Roque barangay council. — Sheila Covarrubias
