DSWD-9 celebrates Nat’l Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week PDF Print E-mail

The Department of Social Welfare and Development-9 (DSWD-9) reeled off on Thursday its activities lined-up for the celebration of the 33rd National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week through hanging of streamers by the Regional Committee on Disability Affairs (RCDA).

The theme for this year’s week-long celebration is “Making the Rights Real for Filipinos with Disabilities.” Prior to this year’s theme, several forums on rights and benefits of persons with disabilities were hosted by agencies like DSWD, through Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center III and RCDA.

Distinguished speakers from both government and non-government (NGO’s) agencies like Social Security System (SSS), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), PhilHealth and Land Transportation Office (LTO) among others will share insights to strengthen the rights and benefits of People with Disabilities (PWD’s).

Aside from forums, there will also be a motorcade on the 18th which will start at Red Cross Headquarters in Petit Barracks going to Zamboanga City High school Main in Tetuan to be followed by a mass hosted by the Archdiocese of Zamboanga Catholic Association of the Deaf (AZCAD) and a program to formally open the celebration, there will also be livelihood booth exhibits alongside the Alvarez street fronting DSWD office.

AVRC III also highlights sports activities for their trainees at AVRC Compound Brgy.Mampang, sports like Chess, goal ball (for blinds), Basketball on wheelchair, Dart, Badminton and Volleyball are the different sports disciplines that the trainees will compete on. AVRC also organized a Poster Making Contest base in the theme.

On July 23, there will also be a variety show at the Sta. Maria Elementary School hosted by DepEd Zamboanga City, Zamboanga City High school Main and WMSU Sped.
In a statement Narrabelle Z. Bue, DSWD’s Information Unit Head, said DSWD hopes that their activities will increase public’s awareness and strengthen the rights and benefits of PWD’S.
