Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation led by Atty. Manuel Almendares confiscated several boxes of suspected fake Mighty cigarettes during a raid at the waterfront market yesterday morning.

In an interview, Almendares told DZT  that armed with search warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court, they raided four stalls around 10    a.m.

Three of the four stalls were found selling fake cigarettes while the other one was close during the raid.

Almendares said the owners of the three stalls will be placed under investigation and will be charged for violation of Republic Act 8293 or the Trademark Infringement and Unfair Competition law for selling fake cigarettes.

The seized boxes of fake Mighty cigarettes and the stall owners were brought to the NBI office for interrogation.

Yesterdays’s raid was one of several raids being conducted by the NBI in the country against people selling fake cigarettes.

The raids come  following a complaint from the Mighty cigarette company against some unscrupulous businessmen selling and manufacturing fake cigarette products bringing the name of their company. — Dan Toribio
