The first ever Chalk Art competition, held Sunday in line with the Summer Festival in Zamboanga, was a huge success as college and high school students and out of school youths turned up at the Jardin Maria Clara in Pasonanca to showcase their works.

The concrete pavement at the Jardin Maria Clara was transformed into vibrant colors and works of art anchored on the theme “I Love Zamboanga City.” Each group of 5 members were given a space area of 8x8 feet where the piece of art was created within the allotted time of 4 hours.

Organized by the City Government, the competition’s criteria for judging included originality 30%, creativity and execution- 20%, centrality/relevance to the theme- 40% and effort and cleanliness 10%. Judging was done by a board composed of well-meaning artists.

Winners in the competition will be announced and awarded during the Dia de Ma’am Caling-Chavacano Pop Music Night on April 26 set at Jardin Maria Clara. First prize winner will get P10,000; second placer – P7,000 and third place winner will get P3,000 while non-winners will receive a consolation prize of P2,000 each.

The Chalk Art competition is one of the activities for the Summer Festival 2016. Also held last week was the Mi Ciudad de Zamboanga photo competition 2016 which focused on photographic depictions of iconic landmarks, people and symbols of Zamboanga. Winners to the contest will also be announced on April 26.
