Mayor Beng Climaco today, April 25, will lead City Government officials and other agencies in the commemoration of 10th Dia de Ma’am Caling marking the 95th birth anniversary of the late Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat.

The commemoration will be highlighted by a mass at 4pm at the Holy Trinity Parish Church in Pasonanca to be followed by the wreath-laying ceremony at Jardin Maria Clara Lobregat in Pasonanca at 5pm.

Members of the Lobregat family headed by District I Cong. Celso Lobregat, supporters and friends of the late mayor as well as representatives from the cross section of the city have been invited to attend the activity.

The chavacano Pop Night and Awarding ceremony to be held Jardin Maria Clara will cap the activity at 6pm. Among the songs and the artists that will be featured are winners in the Original Chavacano Video and Live Music Festival held last October during the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival. These include “Para Contigio”, grand winner performed by Keidi Shay Napalcruz and Rogin Christ Eribal and composed by Alshamir Bryan Aripuddin; “Dejalo Ya”, second place in the live competition performed by Jubaira Garcia and composed by Mark Anthony Tolentino; “Primer Cancion”, third place in the music video performed and composed by Aaron Misa and “Candela”, second place in the song competition, performed and composed by Aldwin Francisco.

The Cantamos Chorale of the Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College (ZCSPC) will also perform during the event.

Adding spice to the activity will be the awarding of winners in the Mi Ciudad de Zamboanga photo competition and the 1st Zamboanga Chalk Art Contest.

The observance of Dia de Ma’am Caling is pursuant to Ordinance 278 enacted 10 years ago. It is intended to give due honor to the late Mayor Maria Clara L. Lobregat for her contribution to the City and her legacy to young Zamboangueños. — Sheila Covarrubias
