No contraband items were recovered during the so-called “Oplan Galugad” inside the city jail Thursday.

The operation was launched by men of the Zamboanga City Police Office and Regional Public Safety Battalion led by Supt. Diomarie Albarico and Supt. Ariston Limos.

The operation started around 6 a.m. in which the policemen were guided by jail guards under the supervision of City Jail Warden Supt. Julius Arro.

All of the more than 2,000 inmates — both male and female — were asked to leave their respective cell for body search. Then policemen conducted search inside the cells.

After the operation, policemen recovered some kitchen knives used in slicing vegetables and opening of canned goods but no contraband items found.

In an interview with DZT, Arro said that he was in favor of other agencies conducting  such operation to be more credible and in the spirit of transparency.

Arro said people might not believe that if his men will conduct similar operation and announce there are no prohibited items found.

Moreover Arro said that few months ago, agents from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, also conducted inspection of all cells but found no drugs therein. – Dan Toribio
