Summer in Zamboanga City continues to pick up pace as the second leg of the two-month summer festival is set to kick off.

Officially opening the May line-up of summer activities is the Summer Learn to Play program, an annual undertaking of the City Sports division of the local government to train young athletes in 27 identified sport disciplines.

Now on its 21st year, the sports program has produced notable top-notch Zamboangueño athletes, including weightlifters Nestor Colonia and Hidilyn Diaz.

On May 18, the local government is set to celebrate the Dia de Gen. Vicente Alvarez in honor and remembrance of heroism of the Zamboangueño revolutionary hero Gen. Vicente Alvarez. The commemorative mass and program will be held at the Plaza de Gen. Vicente Alvarez at 8 AM. A neo-ethnic dance competition will also be held on the same day at 9 AM at the Centro Latino.

A parade of arcos and ladies in traditional mascota will be the highlight of the annual Festival de las Bellas y Flores slated on May 21 at 5 PM on City Hall grounds. Expected to participate are the City’s top and most creative designers and teams.

Capping of the May line-up will be the much-anticipated Danza Verano, a street party celebrating the close of both the 2016 summer festival and the summer months. The street party will be held on May 28 at 7PM at the Paseo del Mar Esplanade.
