Thousands turn up for Labor Day jobs fair at Ecozone PDF Print E-mail

Job seekers, mostly fresh graduates trooped to the Zamboanga Economic Zone and Freeport Authority Sunday, May 1 to take part in the Mega Jobs Fair held in celebration of Labor Day.

Mayor Beng Climaco who graced the activity with Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) Administrator Atty. Hans Leo Cacdac as guest of honor, thanked the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Zamboanga Economic Zone and Freeport Authority for partnering with the local government unit and other agencies to pave the way for the jobs fair that made available over 20,000 job vacancies for local and international placement.

She assured the labor sector that her administration together with Zamboecozone will work together to ensure that prosperity is realized in Zamboanga.

“As workers in government we commit to doing what is best for you in the city of Zamboanga. Aalagaan naming kayo in terms of Security, Health and Education (SHE),” the mayor told the different labor groups during the Labor Day program.

Themed “Kinabukasan Sigurado sa Disenteng Trabajo”, the 114th Labor Day celebration at the Ecozone Park in San Ramon was also highlighted by Diskwento Fairs, free manicure, pedicture, massage and other services from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), raffles and games and so many prizes and surprises.

As a treat to the laborers, the Ecozone administration offered free entrance and free use of its facilities while the City Government offered free bus rides from City Hall to the Ecozone.

Also present during the event were Cong. Celso Lobregat, DOLE officials led by Region 9 Direcotor Sisinio Cano, Engr.  Lorenzo Macapili of TESDA, Marietta Bellotindos of POEA-9, Labor Group leader Jose Suan, Engr. Jaydrick Yap representing the private sector, Fr. Karel representing the academic sector, Mam Pila of the government sector and other officials. — Sheila Covarrubias
