420 hired on the spot on Labor day ‘Jobs Fair’ PDF Print E-mail

Four hundred twenty (420) applicants, mostly fresh graduates were hired on the sport during the jobs fair held May 1 at the Zamboecozone in San Ramon in line with Labor Day celebration.

The 420 hired on the spot formed part of the 2,020 applicants registered during the fair organized jointly by the Department of Labor and Employment, Zamboanga Economic Zone and Freeport Authority and the City Government and other agencies. Of the total hired, are for local placement while 102 are for deployment overseas.

The Public Employment Service Office under the City Social Welfare Office said a total of 2,020 applicants registered during the fair, of which 1,159 qualified for interview or screening. Of the total qualified, 881 were for local and 278 for overseas.

Meanwhile, aside from those hired on the spot, 271 are the so-called near hires, meaning, they have yet to undergo some examinations and submit other requirements before they can be officially hired. Of the 271 near hears- 211 are for local companies while 60 are for overseas placement.

The Jobs Fair made available over 20,000 vacancies and was keynoted by Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) Administrator Atty. Hans Leo Cacdac. The fair was also highlighted by Discuento fairs, free services by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) such as manicure, pedicure and massage among others, raffles and games and other prizes and surprises.

The entrance to the Ecozone as well as use of its facilities including the bus ride from the city proper to the ecozone were also given for free as part of the treats for the labor sector in view of the labor Day celebration. — Sheila Covarrubias
