A gunman landed in the hospital in critical condition when his supposed victims fought and hit him with the butt of an axe at  Massachusetts Drive, San Jose Gusu last Thursday night.

The suspect turned victim was identified as Charles Edward Rivera. He sustained injuries in the forehead.

A police report disclosed that Rivera went to a boarding house at Massachusetts Drive in San Jose Gusu around 10:30 p.m. where he was looking for Joel Fernando.

Rivera was entertained by Jumper Medina, a board mate of Fernando who guided him to the rented room of the latter.

However Rivera suddenly drew a .45 caliber pistol and pointed it at Medina.

Medina along with his wife and child ran out of the house for their safety while Rivera knocked the door of Fernando’s room.

Police said that right upon Fernando opened the door, Rivera aimed him the gun then squeezed the trigger, but it jammed prompting Fernando to fight back that resulted in a scuffle. Fernando’s wife grabbed an axe and its butt on Rivera’s forehead.

Rivera fell unconscious and the incident was reported to the police.

Policemen recovered the .45 caliber pistol with bullets inside the magazine.

Rivera was rushed to the hospital and was reported in serious condition. – Dan Toribio
