The city government appealed to the public to be understanding and patient as candidates hold election-related activities, the last round as the campaign period officially closes today.

This as two of the city’s major political groups are set to go around the city and conduct their Miting de Avance, their last bid to win votes before the May 9 elections.

City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer and concurrent acting City Administrator Dr Elmeir Apolinario yesterday met with Zamboanga City Police Office, Task Force Zamboanga as well as representatives of the two camps to discuss the routes to be taken and to ensure the exercise will not severely inconvenience the public.

Considering the political climate, the city official also reminded the concerned groups to manage their supporters and to refrain from any acts such as heckling, cajoling and/or shouting unsavory remarks that may cause annoyance or incite adverse reactions.

As the motorcades may impede traffic, Apolinario apologized for the inconvenience they may cause but entreated the public to accommodate the candidates as national elections only happen once every six years. — Claudine Uniana
