Mayor Beng Climaco on Friday, May 6, inspired the beneficiaries of the second batch of the City Government’s summer program to make the most of the opportunities that come their way.

Climaco told the 1,360 high school students who converged at the City Coliseum for the orientation program of the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) to always exert their best effort in all their endeavors.

“As you are given the opportunity, please really do your very best because success in life depends on your hard work, on your courtesy, and on your desire to succeed,” said the Mayor.

The orientation program served as the first day of the 20-day deployment of the beneficiaries under the SPES program, a program that was created under RA 7323 which seeks to encourage employment during seminar through incentives granted by local government units and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

For 2016, the City Government allocated P 9.27 million to benefit the total 2,760 beneficiaries. The DOLE, as part of the 60-40% sharing scheme, allocated P 6.18 million.

Each SPES beneficiary is set to receive a compensation of P 5,600 for the entire program period, or P 280 per day.

The chief executive likewise assured the SPES beneficiaries that the local government will continue to work in providing the youth better opportunities and chances for a better future.

“For as long as there is a partner in DOLE, we will continue giving young people the opportunity so that you will have a better, brighter, and greater future in life,” she said. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
