A female member of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) was killed while her son was wounded in an ambush in Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur last Tuesday morning.

Police Regional Information Officer Supt. Roger Alabata identified the fatality as Lilia Pianar Olmido, 54. Wounded was her son Michael Olmido, 14. Both are  residents of Purok Madasigon, Barangay Ignacio Garatta, Dinas.

Lilia sustained multiple bullet wounds in the body and died on the spot, while Michael was shot in the right leg and right arm. He was taken to the hospital.

Alabata disclosed that Lilia and her son were walking on their way to San Isidro Parish Church in POblacion Dinas, around 4:30 a.m. to report the final result of votes when they were fired upon by unidentified men using M16 rifles.

Policemen recovered 11 spent shells of 5.56 caliber and one empty magazine of M16 rifle at the crime scene.

Police were looking into politics as the possible motive of the killing. – Dan Toribio
