The first-ever Festival de Comidas y Alegrias successfully concluded Saturday evening, drawing about a thousand patrons who feasted on the variety of cuisines served by the seven participating hotels and restaurants in City from July 15-16, at the Plaza del Pilar.

The first-of-its-kind food festival raked an estimate of P39,000.00 as combined earnings from the total number of coupons sold by the seven participating establishments for the first evening alone.

For only P100, a customer-guest enjoyed a three-course palatable meal which cookery was of Spanish, American, Japanese and Chinese influences.
The second and concluding evening proved to have exceeded the first with about P43, 000.00 in earning.

“This is a very good initiative and I would like to congratulate the organizers because it gave me and my family a wonderful time”, one of the customers said as he enjoyed his meal with his wife and children.

The two-night activity was a result of the partnership of the City Government of Zamboanga under Mayor Celso Lobregat and Department of Tourism-9 led by its Acting Regional Director Mary June Bugante with the coordination of San Miguel Brewery as its sponsor.

Each evening were filled with aficionados who were treated with live music from the New Soul Band and Project 20 band.

Ten lucky customers were also awarded with gift certificates from the participating establishments which added to the anticipation of the fun-filled nights.

According to DOT officials, they are eyeing a repeat of such activity next year and in fact, looking into the possibility of setting up activities of the same nature in the forthcoming Fiesta Pilar in October. — Richard Aliangan/City Hall PIO
