In a special election on Saturday, the Municipal Board of Canvassers (MBOC) proclaimed at dawn Sunday the duly elected officials of Panglima Estino town in Sulu.

MBOC chairman Michael Gigante proclaimed Panglima Estino municipality incumbent Mayor Benshar “Ben” Estino and his entire slate that won by a landslide victory with vice mayor-elect Sherhan Najar and the eight municipal councilors Eldisin Estinoi, Makran Estino, Damer Habier, Abdurasul Sirajan, madjuri Husaim, Darwin Jamil, Ladimar Mohammad and Muharram Silungan.

Mayor-elect Estino, on his second term, commended the military and the PNP for the successful and peaceful conduct of the special election.

“I’m appealing to all sectors for reconciliation and unity for the progress and better living in our municipality,” Estino said during the proclamation.

Meanwhile, Sulu Provincial Police Provincial Director Sr. Supt. Wilfredo A. Cayat said the general situation in Sulu during the special election on Saturday was generally peaceful.

“But the hacking and killing incident of the son of the mayoralty aspirant is under investigation,” Cayat said.

The incident took place in Patikul, a day before the special election. The victim was allegedly killed by the cousin of the vice mayoralty aspirant in Panglima Estino municipality.

“We are still validating the report as we have already the initial investigation of the incident,” Cayat said.

“But the situation in my AOR was very peaceful and orderly,” said Panglima Estino chief of police Sr. Insp.Munib Musad and ground commander during the special election. — Monch L. Follosco
