Mayor Beng Climaco Wednesday afternoon administered the oath of Los Eli Angeles as chairman of barangay Sta. Maria replacing Abe Tan who voluntarily resigned from his post effective May 18 due to personal reasons.

Angeles was the number one kagawad of barangay Sta. Maria.

Prior to the oath-taking rites at her office, Mayor Climaco formally accepted Tan’s resignation “subject to law”.

Tan’s brief letter addressed to the mayor, reads “I hereby tender my voluntary resignation as Punong Barangay of Barangay Sta. Maria effective today, May 18, 2016 and whatever the outcome of the finds from the Commission on Audit (COA), I am very much willing to cooperate and to comply with the payback of any monetary liabilities and others.”

This is the first time in the Climaco administration that a barangay chairman resigned from his post.

One chairperson, Hanisa Francisco of Tagasilay is currently serving her 6-month suspension for dishonesty and grave misconduct that took effect March 21. The suspension order issued by the mayor was based on recommendation of the City Council and was approved by the Law Department of COMELEC-Manila. — Sheila Covarrubias
