Abu Sayyaf kidnappers released a hostage in Zamboanga City Wednesday night past a cordon put up by security forces, including land and sea patrols.

Rian “Ray-Ray” Tan Nuñez, 21, along with his captors landed around 6 p.m. at the shore of R.T. Lim Boulevard where he was freed and was fetched by his family.

The Abu Sayyaf kidnappers silently sailed away after releasing Nuñez, who was kidnapped along with his 70-year-old businessman grandfather in Lapuyan, Zamboanga del Sur on March 23.

Nuñez in the company of his relatives immediately went home to Lapuyan, where he reunited with other family members,  while his grandfather Antonio Tan is still under captivity by the Abu Sayyaf in Sulu.

It was gathered that Nuñez never saw his grandfather from his arrival in Sulu until the time he was brought here in Zamboanga City for his freedom.

There is no confirmation from authorities did whether ransom was paid for the release of Nuñez.

The grandfather is being held in captivity by the militant group under Alhabsy Misaya in Sulu.
