Heavy rains in watershed area, Flash flood warning issued PDF Print E-mail

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Friday afternoon issued a flash flood warning for residents along riverbanks and low lying areas, as heavy and continuous rains batter the watershed area since Thursday.

CDRRMO Chief Dr. Elmeir Apolinario said water level at the dam as of 3:30pm Friday reached 75.26 meters which is above normal that could swell rivers particularly those located in Pasonanca- Tumaga leading to Tugbungan Barigon.

Apolinario urged the public, particularly people residing along riverbanks and low lying areas to take precautionary measures and to heed authorities’ advises.

He likewise directed Barangay officials and members of the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (BDRRMCs) to closely monitor situation in their respective areas and initiate mitigating measures when necessary.

Zamboanga City has been experiencing intermittent rains the past weeks after a long dry spell that damaged crops and other agricultural products amounting to over P24 million and affecting over 3,000 farmers. —Sheila Covarrubias
