Three employees of a canning factory suffered dizziness and vomiting while some residents at Zone 2, Calle San Isidro, Ayala evacuated their homes to avoid suffocation from ammonia leaked at a machine of the Universal Canning early yesterday morning.

Jose Abiera Repusala, a machine operator, was about to close the ammonia machine at past 1 a.m., when the quick drain bulb stuck causing the chemical to leak.

When the workers smelled the chemical they became dizzy. They rushed out of the Canary 2 building to escape death or serious illness.

Some residents residing within the vicinity of the factory also smelled the sharp odor and quickly left their homes for a safer place.

Factory workers were able to fix the machine and continued the operation after an hour.

The three employees were taken to the hospital aboard ambulance.

Residents also returned to their homes before the sunrise. – Dan Toribio
