A “maestro-amo” (boatswain)  of a fishing boat was wounded in a sea gun attack off between Basilan and Zamboanga City last Tuesday morning.

Joselito Duray, 53, of this city, sustained a bullet wound on the right portion of the stomach and was taken to the hospital.

A police report disclosed that Jose Salido, 48, of Sitio Daap, Sangali, boat captain of F/B Columbia 168 reported to Coast Guard Sub-station that while they were fishing at the vicinity of Sibago Island, Mohammad Adjul town, Basilan around 11p.m. Monday, when two pumpboats with armed men aboard approached them and suddenly opened fire.

The gunmen then sped off towards unknown direction.

Sonar Boat, a sister vessel that was near thescene took Duray to Sitio Daap, Sangali then later transferred him to the hospital for treatment. – Dan Toribio
