The City Government of Zamboanga urges the general public to prominently display the Philippine flag in their residences and/or places of business starting Saturday, May 28.

This is in solidarity with the nationwide observance of National Flag Day to commemorate the date the national symbol was first unfurled on Philippine soil.

President Fidel V. Ramos issued Executive Order No. 179 on May 23, 1994 encouraging the prominent display of the National Flag in all government departments, agencies, offices, government owned and controlled corporations, instrumentalities and the local government units from May 28 to June 12 of every year.

The directive likewise covers the Department of Education, private sector, non-government organizations, and socio-civic groups, enjoining the hanging of the flag in all public squares and, wherever practicable, in all private buildings and homes. — Claudine Uniana
