A truck man died while eight others were injured in a road accident in Barangay Talabiga, Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte Friday afternoon.

Supt. Roger Alabata, Police Regional Information Officer, disclosed that a cargo truck with plate number GRS 679 driven by Nuriel Andico, 38, loaded with sacks of sand, truck men and hitchhikers was negotiating a road connecting Barangay Bitugan and Barangay Piakan, when the accident took place.

Police said the truck driver lost control of the steering wheel because the road was  slippery and a pile of gravel partly blocked it as it was under construction.

The truck fell on a ravine killing Jay-Ar Andico, a truck man.

Eight others were injured — Nuriel Andico (driver), Niño Andico, 18, (truckman), Junil Andico, Jenjen Andico, Jayvee Andico, Bongkeri Andico and Jonard Andico, all minors, Sutlaiya Alvarez, 85, and Salbia Sandag, 70, both hitchhikers. They were taken to the Sirawai Health Center for treatment. – Dan Toribio
