Three men and two women, all natives of Laguna, were injured when the jeepney they were riding fell into a river beside the bridge in Manicahan early Sunday morning.

The victims were identified as Eduardo Garcia y Pitalbo, Allan Rebilsiado, Carlos Luna y Sanson, Maria Rita Del Carmen Luna and Angelica Malate.

The victims sustained injuries in the body and were taken to the hospital.

It was gathered that the five were aboard a jeepney driven by Rebilsiado which came all the way from Laguna via ro-ro sea transport, heading for Sinunuc to visit some relatives when the accident took place.

It was learned that the accident took place around 4 a.m. when Rebilsiado failed to steer the jeepney away from some under construction parts of the  road.

Residents said they heard a heavy object crashed on the river, followed by shouts coming from distressed people, asking for help.

Residents helped extricate the victims from the ill-fated vehicle.

The victims were declared out of danger by physicians. – Dan Toribio
