Mayor Beng Climaco yesterday assured the city’s business community and workforce of her administration’s commitment to make Zamboanga more investment-friendly and subsequently increase employment opportunities in the city.

Speaking during the Wage Consultation organized by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board of the Department of Labor and Employment, the city mayor underscored the important role of investors in the city’s progress and development.

“The more investment opportunities we have in the City of Zamdoanga, the more livelihood and employment opportunities for our people,” she said.

To this end, the city’s Investment Promotions Division is tasked to make Zamboanga a major investment hub and to entice big investors to come to the city.

However, Climaco also stressed that progress and development should translate to a better life for the populace, citing employees should be able to provide for and enjoy life with their family.

“With livelihood and employment opportunities, we ask that the salary of our workers would also give them the capacity to have better opportunities and prosperity for their family,” she said.

She urged the group to consider the issue of wage adjustments from all perspectives to come up with a decision that is beneficial to both employers and employees. — Claudine Uniana
