Beng leads aid distribution to drought-stricken farmers PDF Print E-mail

Mayor Beng Climaco motored to Barangay Curuan on Thursday, June 2, to personally lead the distribution of additional assistance to some 700 farmers who were severely affected by the El Niño phenomenon, assuring them of the local government’s support for the city’s agriculture sector.

The distribution is part of the city’s emergency response on the El Niño, a calamity assistance packaged submitted and recommended by the Office of the City Agriculturist that is aimed to assist drought-stricken farmers.

The mayor handed out various seedlings such as corn, cassava and various other vegetables as well as organic fertilizers to an estimated 600-700 farmers from the Curuan District which covers Barangays Panubigan, Dita, Muti, Lubigan, Latuan and Calabasa.

Also included were sacks of rice from the Department of Social Works and Development as well as the Cash for Work program that paid participating farmers for 10 days of clearing riverbanks, irrigation canals and dams.

According to City Agriculturist DiosdadoPalacat, similar distributions are scheduled on June 7-8 in Vitali District; June 9-10 in Culianan District; June 14-15 in Ayala District; and June 16-17 in Tumaga District.— Claudine Mamales
