Due to the resounding success of the first Mobile Diskwento Caravan (MDC) last year, the Department of Trade and Industry-9 will conduct another round of the program starting this Monday, June 6, until to the 11th covering four far-flung areas in the region.

DTI-9 Regional Director Sitti Amina M. Jain said the success of the first MDC and the feedback gathered from the beneficiaries are key considerations for this year’s caravan.

“Last year was sort of testing the waters. We wanted to bring discounted basic and prime commodities for low income earners in hard-to-reach areas, where programs like these are seldom delivered. The overwhelming success and the clamor from our beneficiaries from last year solidified our decision to again serve the people thru this program this year”, Dir. Jain said.

Last year, MDC served 2,179 individuals from Labuan, Zamboanga City, Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay, Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte, and Sominot, Zamboanga del Sur.

This year, the MDC will kick off in Barangay Vitali, this city, on June 6. From Vitali, the group composed of DTI-9 staff to be led by Consumer Protection Division OIC-Division Chief Samuel Delos Reyes, will proceed to Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay for the second leg on June 8.

Next stop will be in the municipality of Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur on June 9 and finally in Manukan, Zamboanga del Norte on June 11.

Dir. Jain is inviting residents of the said areas to avail of the discounted commodities ranging from school supplies, canned goods and other basic commodities.

“We invite the residents from the said areas to come and avail of the program. This is all intended for them. We want them to know that we at the government are thinking of initiatives and programs that will benefit them. This is just one of the many programs that we have to help our brothers and sisters in far-flung areas where government assistance is really needed”, she said.

The Mobile Diskwento Caravan is also in partnership with local business establishments and distributors in Zamboanga City.

“We would like to thank our partners from the business sector for helping us realize this project. This partnership will go a long way for our intended beneficiaries, and we hope to continue our partnership with them”, Jain said. (MVC/DTI-9)
