Troops, bandits clash at Sibuco construction site PDF Print E-mail

Army soldiers engaged in a shootout with bandits who harassed workers working on a bridge construction project at Sitio Nasal, Barangay Puliran, Sibuco, Zamboangadel Norte last Monday afternoon.

Supt. Roger Alabata, Police Regional Information Officer, disclosed that troops from the 1st Squad of Bravo Company of the ARMY’S 42nd Infantry Battalion led by Cpl. Benito Herras were providing security to workers of Bendemil Construction undertaking the construction of a concrete bridge when Jamarudin Alih Alias Boy Takas and his seven bandit followers appeared and opened fire on them.

Army troops returned fire triggering to a brief shootout.

Alabata said that the bandits were positioned about 3oo meters away from the construction site.

After short exchange of gunfire, the attackers withdrew to the hinterland. No one was hurt in the incident.

The troops recovered one spent shell of carbine rifle and four empty shells of caliber 5.56 at the encounter site. – Dan Toribio
