The Zamboanga City-Southern City Colleges team has been declared overall champion of this year’s Samahang Basketbolista ng Pilipinas U16 3X3 Tatluhan Basketball Tournament held at the Mall of Asia sports arena in Pasay City.

The SCC team defeated Pampanga team in the final game Thursday (June 9). Pampanga was second in rank nationwide during the local and regional eliminations. The team of Zamboanga City also defeated Metro Manila and the whole National Capital Region.

The SCC team is composed of Rovi Jhon Bagares, Adrian Cordova, Jhon Rey Delos Reyes and Edgar Laurence Deles with Coach Ednie L. Morones.

Pedro Alfaro, SBP Area Head for Mindanao,  said that the championship ceremony was officiated by SBP President Sonny Barrios, who turned over to the champion  team a cheque worth P 50,000 as well as the individual medals to each player.

According to Alfaro, the  SBP tournament started  in all local and regional level nationwide last May.

Sports Coordinator Ferdie Bernabe said that Zamboanga City players are excellent players because they defeated NCR, Metro Manila and Pampanga which  are exposed to national basketball tournaments and similar events.

Alfaro disclosed that Zamboanga City also sent a contigent of two teams composed of female players, unfortunately they were not able to get any place. But luckily they got a good experience in national  basketball tournament and competition especially in Metro Manila.
