A lineman of the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative  (Zamcelco) was seriously injured Saturday during an operation involving the clearing of trees that are touching electric lines along Varela St., Barangay Zone 1.

Elmer Timpangco was immediately brought to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Timpangco, after cutting the branches of trees, rested his right hand at aboom and accidentally inserted it.

Had it not for the immediate response of the truck’s operator identified as John Aquino and the driver of Zamcelco truck with plate number RGG-901, the victim’s entire palm would have been cut off.

Zamcelco OIC-General Manager Engr. Edgardo Ancheta, who re-assumed his post on June 1 after a 90-day suspension, said the victim is entitled to all benefits.

“The accident happened in the line of duty, so the coop will shoulder all expenses in the hospital and other benefits,” Ancheta said.

Meanwhile, Zamcelco has notified bonafide member-consumers that the 41st Annual General Membership Assembly (AGMA) will be held on June 19, (Sunday) at 1 p.m. at the City Coliseum in Tetuan.

Registration will start at 6 p.m. and all member-consumers are advised to bring their Zamcelco identification card or any valid ID. No proxy registration is allowed. —Monch L. Follosco
