An Abu Sayyaf linked kidnap gang leader was arrested by government forces in Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay at dawn yesterday.

Police Regional Information Officer Supt. Roger Alabata identified the arrested kidnapper as Abner Gumandol alias SeharMuloc and Red Eye.

He was nabbed on the strength of a warrant for kidnapping with case number 20128, issued by Judge Cherry Concha of the Regional Trial Court branch 10, Dipolog City.

Gumandol was arrested by operatives of the 17th SFC, HSC, 6th SF Bn., PA, 44th IB, MIG9, MIG10, CIDG9, ZNPIB and NICA9, at barangay Kaliantana in Naga, around 1 a.m.

Alabata said that Gumandol is a leader of a criminal gang called “Muloc Group” operating in the municipalities of Salug, Liloy, Godod and Tampilisan, inZamboanga del Norte.

The group is also involved in extortion, shootings, robberies, kidnap-for-ransom and gun for hire.

Alabata said the group was responsible for the kidnapping of Mayor Jeffrey Lim of Salug in 2012 and Rolando del Torchio, a former Italian priest of Dipolog City on October 7, 2015.

Gumandol was placed under the custody of CIDG in Zamboanga Sibugay prior to his turn-over to the court. – Dan Toribio
