The Ateneo de Zamboanga University and the Social Housing and Finance Corporation (SHFC) will formally forge a memorandum of understanding for the joint implementation of a sustainable community housing program for the poor in Zamboanga.

The event, set at 10:30am Thursday, June 16 at the Jose Maria Rosauro Hall building at the ADZU Campus in La Purisima will be graced by City Caretaker and OIC Mayor Cesar Iturralde, SHFC President Ma. Ana Oliveros, SHFC Mindanao-COD Atty. Ronald Saco, SHFC-Zamboanga Regional Head Gina Lumbre, and ADZU President Fr. Karel San Juan, SJ.

As with previous partnerships with the academe, the ADZU-SHFC memorandum of understanding will ensure multi-sectoral collaboration in addressing the challenge of homeless in the city particularly in providing affordable housing solutions for families affected by calamities or disasters.

The SHFC has been jointly implementing with the local government unit, housing programs through the Community Mortgage Program (CMP). The program is a mortgage financing scheme of the SHFC legally assisting organized associations of underprivileged and homeless citizens to purchase and develop a tract of land use under the concept of community ownership.

The SHFC is tapping ADZU due to its various community programs that are needed by the informal settler communities, according to SHFC-Zamboanga director Lumbre. —  Sheila Covarrubias
