Once again, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) joins the entire world in taking a leap to celebrate the “Day of the Seafarers” on June 25, 2016.

With this year’s theme: “At Sea For All”, this day is a way of recognizing the important role and contribution of the seafarers to the maritime industry and global economy.    Internationally acclaimed also as the “sailing ambassadors” , this is the day of thanking the seafarers and recognizing their indispensable role to the shipping industry and maritime economy.

Locally, the Maritime Industry Authority  Region-9 under the directorship of Atty. Irving L. Saipudin will spearhead the celebration which is highlighted with different culminating activities, duly participated by different government agencies, stakeholders, operators, seafarers, students, maritime schools and training center/s, such as among others holding a parade from Lantaka Hotel passing via Rizal St, proceeding to C. Climaco Ave and heading forward to the PPA Quadrangle from Alejo Alvarez St., then blowing of ship’s horn before the start of a short program at the local wharf-PPA Quadrangle, and presentation of Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College (ZCSPC) and Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST) cadets and cadettes drill.

This is a way of signifying reminder to all, especially those who often overlooked the seafarers contribution to the maritime transportation activities and economy and that they deserve utmost respect and commendable salute.

Hence, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) family spearheaded by Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), Philippine Coast Guard ( PCG) and Phil. Ports Authority (PPA) for this activity, joined hands in inviting all seafarers, their families and friends to witness and be united with us in the celebration of the “Day of the Filipino Seafarers.
