City Hall has aired an appeal to all sectors to fully support and cooperate with authorities in the implementation of an experimental traffic scheme intended to decongest and manage traffic flow downtown.

The experimental traffic scheme contained in Executive Order 179-2016 will be enforced for a duration of 3 months effective June 2016.

OIC City Administrator and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Dr. Elmeir Apolinario said the support and cooperation of the people will help ensure smooth enforcement of the experimental traffic scheme.

The police authorities expected to make recommendations pertaining to the experimentation in a bid to decongest traffic at the city’s urban center.

The experimental traffic scheme will involve the temporary designation of one-way streets in the following areas: 1) NS Valderrosa St. From junction P Lorenzo St. F. Marcos Street – One way North to South (from F. Marcos St., no right turn to NS Valderrosa towards City Hall, and from Corcuera St., no right turn to NS Valderrosa towards City Hall); 2) J.P. Rizal St. from junction F. Marcos St. to Corcuera St. – One way South to North, and; 3) Villalobos St. from junction Pilar St. to NS Valderrosa St. – One way East to West (no entry from NS Valderrosa St.).

Aside from one-way streets, the executive order also identified designated parking areas in the following locations: 1) NS Valderrosa junction P. Lorenzo St. to F. Marcos St. – one side parallel parking for four-wheels, North to South; 2) NS Valderrosa St. junction P. Lorenzo St. to Corcuera St. – one side parking occupying the innermost lane before sidewalk up to two motorcycles per layer parking, and; 3) F. Marcos St. from junction Rizal St. to NS Valderrosa St. fronting Landbank southside vacant space – parking slot for motorcyles only.

Several streets are also designated as parking areas, and these include: 1) P. Reyes St. from junction P. Brilliantes St. to I. Magno St. – one side diagonal parking exclusive for motorcycles; 2) Orendain St. from junction P. Brilliantes St. to I. Magno St. – one side parallel parking for four wheel vehicles; 3) Barcelona St. from junction P. Brilliantes St. to I. Magno St. – one side parallel parking for four wheel vehicles, and; 4) La Purisima St. from junction Gov. Lim Ave. to I. Magno St. – one side diagonal parking for motorcycles. — Sheila Covarrubias
