Government forces have arrested a policeman and a civilian in Zamboanga del Norte  on charges of human trafficking.

The law enforcers also rescued five women.

Police Regional Office 9 Deputy Regional Director for Operations Sr. Supt. Debold M. Sinas disclosed that the two suspects identified as PO2 Joel D. Billeno and Amelita Jake were nabbed on the strength of Warrant of Arrest No. 06-0015 issued by Judge Bastasa of the Regional Trial Court of Dipolog City for the crime of human trafficking penalized under R. A 10364.

Sinas said that at around 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, troopers of the Zamboanga del Norte Police Provincial Office, Katipunan Municipal Police Station, ZDNPPO Womens and Desk Office and ZNPIB conducted a joint operation in Barangay Tuburan, Katipunan town resulting in the arrest of Billeno and  Jake and the rescue of five women.

The law enforcers also confiscated from the two suspects  five laptop computers, four keyboards, five laptop chargers, 4 mouses, three extension wires, 20 meters internet cable, two routers, a power supply, a cellphone, a Toyota Wigo, a Honda Wave motorcycle and a handgun. The arrest procedure was witnessed by two barangay officials and local newsmen.

The five rescued women were confined at the ZDNPPOWCD for de-briefing and counseling. The two suspects were temporarily detained at ZDNPPO prison cell, while the confiscated items will be sent to PRO9 Cyber Crime Unit in Zamboanga City.

PRO-9 Director Chief Supt. Billy B. Beltran commended Sr. Supt. Edwin Wagan for the arrest of the two suspects and the rescue of the five women. — Allen Abastillas
