Less than an hour after a suspected Abu Sayyaf militant escaped from police custody, another one was nabbed during a police operation that was backed up by military troops along JS Alano St. at noon last Tuesday.

Nabbed was Usman Atalad alias Atalad/Suhud LImaya and Hud, 46, married, a fruit vendor and a native of Jolo. He is staying at Don Basilio Navarro Street, San Jose Cawa-Cawa.

Atalad was arrested by men of the Culianan Police Station led by Sr. Insp. Elmer Solon with soldiers of the 304th Philippine Air Force headed by 2Lt. Rex Bello.

Police said that Atalad was collared on the strength of a warrant for seven counts of kidnapping and serious illegal detention with case numbers; 3432, 3551, 3552, 3566, 3567, 3569 and 3570.

The warrant was issued by Judge Leo Jay T. Principe, of the RTC, Branch 1, 9th Judicial Region, Isabela City, Basilan Province on January 28, 2008.

Atalad was temporarily detained at the Culianan Police Station before he was taken to the Zamboanga City Jail.

Police said that before Atalad’s arrest, police had received an information that he was the one with warrant of arrest and was positively identified by some witnesses.

Atalad was nabbed several minutes after Alnhur Usup y Bacalso, also a member of the Abu Sayyaf Sulu based escaped along Magay Street while he and his cohort were being transported from the Hall of Justice to City Jail. – Dan Toribio
