Mayor Celso Lobregat has underscored the importance of health and physical well-being in the effort to educate the young to ultimately solve poverty.
“I believe the key to eradicating poverty, corruption and many other of our problems like in educating our people. But education is not only the filling of one’s mind, it also covers a person’s physical well-being”, the mayor said the other day as he launched together with Department of Education officials the Palengke sa Eskwelahan at the Zamboanga Central School.

Mayor Lobregat declared that health and general well-being of each and every Zamboangueno is of paramount importance in his administration stressing that the local government is serious in addressing the medical and health as well as nutritional needs of the constituents as he believes that progress is only possible if everyone is healthy.

The launching of “Palengke sa Eskwela” held in celebration of the Nutrition Month was intended to encourage school children to eat nutritious foods like vegetables and fruits.

“I wish this “Palengke sa Eskwela” a success. I assure you of my administration’s commitment to implement programs that would promote healthy eating in the city,” the mayor stressed.

He said a child’s health must be nurtured so he or she can cope well with the challenges that would beset her as he or she grows older. It is essential that every child receives all of the required nutrients, vitamins and minerals to ensure their well-being as they grow up, he added.

Also present during the Palengke sa Eskwela launching were Councilor Rudy Lim, City health officer Rodel Agbulos, Deped officials Maybell Tee and others, school principals and administrators and staff. — Sheila Covarrubias
