“The sacrifices done by our seafarers are very meaningful. It contributed a lot to the country, their family, and the entire Filipino people,” said Atty. Irving L. Saipudin, MARINA regional director, said in an interview

Hundreds participated during the activities which include maritime students, shipping companies, and some seafarers.

Drills were also showcased by the Maritime students of Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology and Zamboanga State Polytechnic College.

Aside from these, the students and participants also participated during the question and answer where questions asked were about the maritime industry.

Saipudin was also happy with the participation of the students as he described them “future seafarers of the country.”

The Philippines has around 86,000 seafarers who are officers while 107,000 who are non-officers. These Filipino seafarers are preferred around the world because of their work ethics and also because they can communicate well in English. — R.G. A A. Go
