A man was shot and killed by policemen after he shot his wife dead during a hostage drama in Molave, Zamboanga del Sur last Tuesday.

Supt. Roger Alabata, police regional information officer,  identified the hostage-taker as Eddie Reyes, 35, married of Purok 4, Sitio Sili, Barangay Bagong Ariosa, Molave.

A police report disclosed that the hostage incident was reported through cell phone by Laurencio Canlum Jr., secretary for barangay affairs of Molave.

Policemen led by Insp. Herminigildo Bajao rushed to the place and saw Reyes who was armed with a grenade and a .45 caliber pistol holding his wife and their three children hostage.

Lawmen and other officials engaged Reyes in a negotiation to free his family.

However, Reyes suddenly shot and killed his wife and while he was about to pull the safety pin of the grenade,  lawmen opened fire on him.

The three children were unharmed and were taken by their relatives for custody.

The bodies were brought to a funeral parlor for post mortem examination.

A police report did not mention anything about the motive behind the hostage taking. – Dan Toribio
