A motorcyclist was slightly wounded when unidentified men detonated two bombs in an attempt blow up two armored vehicles carrying undetermined amount of money along the highway at Sitio Marangan, Muti before noon Wednesday.

Report said the two bombs went off  at a spot along the highway just seconds after two armored vehicles which were moving bank money from one point to another passed it.

The first explosion took place about one kilometer from an outpost of the army’s 21st Infantry Battalion and the second was only one meter from the same detachment.

It was learned that the first powerful explosion happened just seconds after the two armored vans passed. Another bomb blast followed near the army detachment.

Police suspected the first bomb was intended to stop the two armored vehicles while the second explosion was to warn the soldiers from the outpost not to respond in the first explosion.

Investigators said the perpetrators miscalculated their plan to hit their targets.

Shrapnels from the second explosion hit the motorcyclist but he was not critically wounded.

Bomb experts said the persons behind the foiled attempt used cell phones as triggering devices of the two explosives. — Dan Toribio
